NAT’L TOWN HALL on Black Male Achievement 10/22
Ms. Pat, Greetings!
Town Hall Meeting Announcement About the Council of Great City Schools
I am anticipating with eagerness the presence of the Council of Great City Schools. Hillsborough County Schools is host to the CGCS 54th Annual Fall Conference from October 20 to 24 at the Tampa Waterside Marriott Hotel. Since the beginning of the school year, I have been advocating for our school district to include an item on the School Board agenda related to black male academic achievement. “If black males are on the agenda, then they are on the agenda. If they are not on the agenda, then they are not on the agenda.”
It is welcome news that the Council of Great City Schools has placed black males on the conference agenda and is devoting time for a whole Town Hall meeting on the subject. This is exponential progress from the three-minute public comment time when the subject of black males comes up at our local School Board meetings. My hope is that members of the black community who attend the Town Hall will stand up and share what the black community is willing to do to help black males demonstrate academic excellence. I also hope that the School Board of Hillsborough County follows the lead of the Council and has an agenda item related to black male student achievement on the agenda for its October 26 meeting .
